Status rapport efterår 2009

PERFORMANCE:

At the end of the 2009 school academic year a few of the students were said not to have performed very well. The school insisted that they repeat their present class. Meetings were held with the whole students and the issue was discussed.  Some of the reasons they gave was that their teachers were changed randomly and it affected their interest in some subjects. Others complained of lack of quality time to do private studies at home. The youth councilor has met with the guardians of the students involved to explain to them why they should allow them more time to study at home. If you note, this has always been an issue with most of the guardians. We will keep addressing them and do hope that the guardians will understand our positions.

CHRISTMAS PROGRAM:

2009, Christmas program, saw the students coming to stay at the viler for a weekend. Under the supervision of the youth advisor, they made their own meals, and organized playlets and games amongst themselves. The height of it was an out door swimming completion game. Though not all of them could swim, yet they all insisted on swimming. It was much fun to see the ones who could not swim, try to swim in their own way.  Dinner was fun as everyone had something to say and someone to make fun of. Till date they still talk about the swimming contest and have asked to us to organize another one soon.

SPORTS:

Aminu continued to lead as the best students in the schools sports Team. He remains the motivational strength of the football team and is the school’s first choice for the 100m track and field event. He is presently on training with a local football school in Jos.

2011

Schools resumed in the first week of January but was disrupted on the 16th of January by another religious crisis. School activities were disrupted for more than two weeks. Four students had their houses burnt. Amina, Patience, Usman and Pam. None sustained any injury and we were all happy for that. Amina presently stay in another end of town and does have transportation challenges. With Usman we have been able to work out an arrangement for him. He is presently staying with Sani, another student within the project; however his parents have told us that they would like to have him stay with a close relative at the beginning of next academic session after Easter.

FLORENCE:

Recently Florence had to leave where she was staying with her Aunt. Our enquiries showed that the Aunt often used languages on her that reminded her of her past and the fact that she has no parents. Though the Aunt denied the accusation it was evident that Florence could no longer stay with her. We are presently searching for a place for Florence to stay and also holding talks with the family to find a better way handle the issue.

Venlig hilsen Lene Terkelsen/Anders Mogensen
